We were never the kind of couple to make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day. We’re turned off by the clichés, the fixed-price menus loaded with heavy-handed puns, and the impossible-to-meet expectations. I don’t remember why we chose to break our long-loved tradition of staying in, but on February 14, 2018, we ended up at Primeur. The little restaurant in Stoke Newington is easy to miss, only really detectable by the glow it casts on the outside pavement, but within that intimate space, over candlelight, we had the best meal of our lives. Ox heart, monk’s beard, and a glass of red; our stomachs and hearts were filled that night. We returned for every special occasion after that. And my fiancé became a chef there, so now the enchanting little place that stole our hearts is an even bigger part of our lives.
